We were delighted to welcome some very special visitors to the school today as they came in to support and publicise “The Daily Mile” – Frank Greally from the Daily Mile, Lisa O’Dowd from Meath Local Sports Partnership and Ray Darcy from RTE Radio One! Ray and Frank talked to all the children about the daily mile and the benefits of regular movement for our body and mind.  You can find more about it HERE.  After a short session in the hall a selection of our pupils went out to the track for a ‘Run with Ray’ while the rest cheered them on!

What is the Daily Mile?

The aim of The Daily Mile is simple –  to get children fit by running for 15 minutes a day. A headteacher in Scotland, Elaine Wyllie, founded The Daily Mile to tackle the obesity and poor levels of fitness of the children in her school. The great thing is that this daily exercise is not timetabled. Teachers take their classes out at a time of their choosing and it only takes 15 minutes. It’s simple – the kids don’t get changed, it gets them out of their seats and gives them an opportunity to go outside and socialise within their school community.
