European School Sports Day (ESSD) saw schools across Europe take one day to celebrate sport and physical activity on Friday 29th September 2023. The initiative aims to promote physical activity on an international level and involve as many children and young people, schools and organisations as possible. In Ireland, ESSD is organised by the Irish Primary PE Association.
Mr. Hoey led the staff in organising a ‘festival of sport’ for the pupils to take part in.
The Astroturf pitch was divided up into 8 sections with 8 different sports/games taking place at one time. Each class from 1st to 6th will got to take part in each section over a 90 minute session of fun and games!
Junior and senior infant classes had brain breaks, go noodles, dance activities and fun activities in the hall
The aim of the day was to be as active as possible and to walk, jog or run 2023 metres for European Sports Day 2023.
