The green-fingered pupils in Mrs Daly’s 2nd Class have been rewarded with beautiful hyacinths to get spring off to a colourful start! Planting took place in early December, when a variety of hyacinth bulbs were mixed and pupils chose ‘lucky-dip’ style to create an element of surprise. The planting process gave rise to nice procedural writing as the pupils documented how they had planted their chosen bulbs. The pots remained in the dark for weeks, with regular watering, allowing the roots to develop, which we could check on through the clear plastic pots. Once out on the sunny classroom window ledges, the hyacinth shoots grew rapidly, and the pretty pink, purple and white flowers appeared, to great excitement!
