These photos are from Ms. Leahy’s Senior Infant class. They were studying the topic of houses and homes. As part of our outdoor learning project she took the lesson outside!
Each pair was given a small plastic character who they were asked to build a shelter in the woods for. The children discussed where would be suitable to build their shelters. Some decided on low ground beside trees to avoid wind. Others chose different levels on branches and mounds of mud and piles of leaves. They used sticks and leaves that had already fallen from the trees.
They spoke about the environment and how we can be respectful of nature while completing the activities. They all really enjoyed this lesson and have asked to repeat it in the future!
